Using the PIN Lock

Securing your settings and library using the PIN Lock

To access the “PIN Lock” settings page, first press on the gear icon on the top right hand corner of the home screen. Then tap on “PIN Lock” in the list of available settings categories.

The PIN lock allows you to disable access to the settings menus and to modify your sign library to users that don’t have your PIN number.

Setting up the PIN Lock

To set up the PIN Lock, having navigated to the PIN Lock settings page, you will be invited to enter your desired 4-digit pin. Then you must enter it again to confirm setting it.

As soon as you have confirmed your desired PIN number, the PIN lock is activated.

You may want to take a note of your PIN somewhere secure in case you forget it.

If you want to delete the last digit you entered, you can press the backspace key in the bottom right corner of the onscreen keypad.

If you want to delete the whole of the current PIN attempt, you can press the cross-shaped clear key in the bottom left corner of the onscreen keypad.

Changing your PIN

To change your pin while the lock is activated, having navigated to the PIN Lock settings page, you will be invited to enter your new desired 4-digit pin. Then you must enter it again to confirm setting it.

Removing the PIN Lock

To remove the PIN Lock, having navigated to the PIN Lock settings page, press the “Remove PIN” button at the bottom of the screen.

The PIN Lock will be immediately deactivated and your chosen PIN will be forgotten.

Choosing a good PIN

While the PIN Lock should not be used as a strong form of authentication (for example to prevent access to your personal data by unauthorised parties), it is useful to prevent younger users from accidentally making destructive changes to their app settings or sign library.

As such, it is good to be mindful when choosing a PIN to minimise the likelihood of the user from guessing it or successfully inputting it accidentally.

As such we recommend that your PIN:

  • Should not contain of 3 or 4 of the same digit in a row (e.g. 0000 or 1999)

  • Should avoid being a repeated sequence of 2 digits (e.g. 1212)

  • Should avoid being a sequence of sequential digits (e.g. 1234)

  • Should not be the same as the code to unlock the whole smart device
