Settings - My Glove

Learn about how to update the settings for your glove

Please be aware that your paired glove is attached to your account. This means that if you are signed into multiple devices with the same account, all of those devices will be paired to the same glove. This is designed to make it easier for a user to use different smart devices while at home and at school, for example.

To access the “My Glove” settings page, first press on the gear icon on the top right hand corner of the home screen. Then tap on “My Glove” in the list of available settings categories.

Re-pairing a new glove

If you have previously paired a glove with the app, and want to pair a new one instead, first proceed to the settings menu by tapping the gear icon in the upper right corner of the home screen.

Next tap on the “My Glove” menu option. You should see a button on the page that appears with text reading “Pair a new glove”. When you press this button, your old glove will be unpaired from the app and the app will begin searching for a new glove to pair with.

Ensuring that the glove is turned on and that the blue light is flashing slowly, hold the wrist enclosure to the back of your smart device. The phone should pair with the glove quickly and then proceed to the next step.

If your glove is already paired with and connected to another phone in the vicinity, it will not be able to successfully pair with the new device. In general you should ensure that you never have more than one device paired with the same glove in the same vicinity.

Please ensure that there is only one unpaired glove turned on and near to the smart device while you are attempting to pair. If more than one glove is turned on and unconnected, you might accidentally pair your smart device with the wrong glove.

Recalibrating your glove

You are always able to re-calibrate any connected glove if you want to, and MUST do so after pairing a new glove. If your glove has not been calibrated, you will not be able to use it to teach the app signs, or to translate them.

Calibration teaches the app your range of movement and the size of your hands. Recording a good calibration is very important to achieving maximum accuracy when signing.

To calibrate your glove, first proceed to the settings menu by tapping the gear icon in the upper right corner of the home screen.

Next tap on the “My Glove” menu option. If your glove is connected, you should see a button on the page that appears with text reading “Calibrate” or “Recalibrate”. If your glove is not connected, you must connect it now. When you press this button, you will begin the calibration process.

The app will explain the process to you and invite you to tap a button to begin calibrating.

Once you press the button to start, hold your hand (wearing the glove) out in front of you scrunching up your fingers and thumb as tight as you can. Next, stretch them out and back as far as you can. Then, rotate your wrist as far as you can anti-clockwise, then as far as you can clockwise. Rotate your arm up to point to the sky, then down to the floor. Lastly, rotate it at the elbow to point to the right and then to the left. Finally, you can press the button to stop calibrating.

While the actual movements are arbitrary, the purpose of this sequence of movements is to capture the full range of motion of your hands and arms. If you aren’t able to do it fully, don’t worry - that is part of teaching the glove what you can and can’t do.

If you have a limited range of motion and are unable to perform these steps at all, please get in touch with us and we can design an alternative calibration sequence that fits your needs and abilities.
